In recent years, surgical techniques in the field of ENT surgery have advanced significantly.
The use of lasers has opened up the possibility of minimally invasive treatment for a wide variety of conditions.
Hospital stays are often shortened or avoided altogether. Thanks to lasers, minor procedures can even be performed on an outpatient basis.
One example of the beneficial use of lasers is
• · Laser turbinate reduction (reduction of the nasal turbinates)
Many people suffer from restricted nasal breathing. This is often caused by enlarged nasal turbinates (swollen tissue inside the nose). Using a laser, these can be reduced under local anaesthetic in a minimally invasive procedure. A very fine endoscope is used for this, which provides an excellent view inside the nose. Bleeding is rare, and even the use of a tamponade is usually not necessary. This procedure can even be performed on patients who are taking blood-thinning medication, such as heart patients.
• Treatment of benign and malignant changes in the larynx
• Laser paracentesis (opening of the eardrum to remove fluid behind the eardrum)
• Removal of nasal polyps
